Candice Swanepoel: I Was Bullied at School and Modelling Was My Revenge

The 23-year-old gorgeous blonde said that modeling was her perfect revenge for all those who bullied her at school. While she struts her stuff ranging from beachwear to lingerie for the shoot, she revealed that she felt like an outsider while growing up in South America. She was later discovered in 2003 at age 15 at a Durban flea market.

Candice Swanepoel, one of the most successful Victoria’s Secret angel, revealed she was bullied at school for being too thin and she sees revenge for her classmates in her top model career.

The Victoria’s Secret model said:

A year before I got scouted, I would watch a lot of FashionTV. At school, I got teased because I was so thin and awkward-looking. But the girls on TV looked similar to me.”

She added:

I would say to my mom ‘The girls at school are teasing me, but I look like those girls on TV’. A year later, someone took me to an agency and that’s it.”

Candice confessed that although revenge is not right, it felt good to show people who taunted her what she has earned from all her hard work. She said:

I put all my eggs in one basket when I left South Africa. I put my head down and worked my ass off. And look where it got me.”

She has been in a relationship with boyfriend – Brazilian model Hermann Nicoli since age 17. The model also revealed a quirk she does to cheer herself up. Swanepoel said:

Whenever you feel down, you can check on Twitter and feel better about yourself, because it’s only people who like you.”

The beauty said she had developed lasting friendships with fellow Victoria’s Secret models, who understood what she was going through. She said:

It’s so nice. We live a very different life that not many other people can understand.”

Candice has had to fend off rumours that she suffers from an eating disorder after getting scarily skinny last year. She explained the weight loss as the result of a hectic work schedule.
