Britain’s Olympians have naked ambitions for Beijing 2008

Muscles taut and face locked in concentration, this is Rebecca Romero, who will be representing Britain in the Olympic games later this month. Romero is one of the world’s top cyclists, no one would tell her previous experience of cycling simply consisted of working in a bike shop as a teenager.

Romero wants to make history in China as the first British woman to win Olympic medals in two separate summer sports.

The athlete is now favourite to win the gold medal in the 3000m individual pursuit race in which she is already world champion. Romero also suggested she might be tempted to take up a third sport after the Games.

Miss Sports said:

I might think about raising the bar a bit more. It might have to be a winter sport as I might not be able to wait for another Olympic cycle.”

Triple jumper Phillips Idowu and swimmer Gregor Tait also posed naked for award-winning photographer Nadav Kander as part of Powerade ad campaign.

Cathryn Sleight, marketing director for Coca-Cola Great Britain which produces Powerade, said:

Everyone is used to seeing athletes in competition or winning, but we wanted to give people the chance to see the real make-up of an athlete and their muscle and power, celebrating the body and spirit and the hard work that goes into training for all athletes whatever your level.”

While fans wait until Monday night to watch all of the action at the 2008 Teen Choice Awards, Hollywood’s hottest celebs were on-hand for the taping of the annual awards show at the Gibson Amphitheater in Los Angeles on Sunday night, August 3.

No one, but Hannah Montana starlet Miley Cyrus played host at the 10th annual running of the event, which showered celebrities with dozens of surfboard trophies in film, TV, music, sports and fashion categories. She, herself, won in all of the three categories.

Whereas other award shows dole out conventional trophies, the Teen Choice Awards hand out surfboards. The perennial Teen Choice champion Justin Timberlake - who has won 21 surfboards (more than anyone else) over the years - has managed to snag three more nods this year, didn’t show up.

But there were other celebrities who showed up even if there were no chances for them to win.

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian keeps it simply chic shining in a silver Bradley Bayou strapless dress with matching metallic peep-toes.

She was nominated for two surfboards this year: Choice TV: Celebrity Reality and Choice TV: Female Reality/Variety Star. In the category of reality star, she went up against Dancing with the Stars’s Kristi Yamaguchi, America’s Next Top Model’s Whitney Thompson and The Hills stars Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag.

Soccer stud David Beckham picked up the surfboard for Choice Male Athlete. He was accompanied by his wife Victoria to beat out golfer Tiger Woods, footballer Eli Manning and basketball star Kobe Bryant and LeBron James.

Stop-Loss actor Channing Tatum picked up a surfboard for Choice Movie Actor in a Drama. The 28-year-old actor beat out Into The Wild’s Emile Hirsch, Rendition’s Jake Gyllenhaal, We Own The Night’s Mark Wahlberg and Stop-Loss’s Ryan Phillippe.

Infantile Mariah Carey performed at the 2008 Teen Choice Awards in a very “interesting” outfit. I think it fuckin sucks.

Later in the evening Kim Kardashian grabbed her sis Khloe Kardashian and girls headed to Stork to walk the red carpet at the Maxim Celebration of The Biggest Event In Extreme Sports in Hollywood.

Wearing white tank top underneath a black zip-up jumper-style dress with black peep-toe heels and a shiny black leather clutch Kim hit the party and got naughty. The paparazzi dream came true.

Did you know that Kim is the daughter of the late Robert Kardashian, who was best known for being OJ Simpson’s lawyer during his murder trial?

Fergie gets down again and this time it is really naughty. That night she helped to celebrate former Guns N’ Roses and current Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash’s 43rd birthday.

Longoria looked demure dressed in a frilly pale pink sleeveless lace dress with a ruffled hem. The dress had a solid satin high neck and a matching sash at the waist. She accessorized with teardrop earrings and pearly pink peep toe pumps. Her dark brown bob cut hair styled with a low side parting looked chic. A little heavy makeup was a good match overall.

Yesterday on July 21, 2008 Eva Longoria looked svelte at a press conference to announce the 2008 ALMA Awards. There were rumors that Eva is pregnant after the photograph of Desperate Housewives star in a bikini off the coast of Italy. The 33 year old actress denied the rumors explaining she had to put on some weight to play Gabriel this season.

This season’s Gabriel will change a lot from the slim fancy looking shopoholic to an overworked exhausted mother of two children in the upcoming season of the TV series. Eva says she is keen to be a real life mother too.

As for her morning press conference appearance, Eva will be returning as executive producer and host of the ALMA Awards show, which will be taped August 17th at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, and will include a special presentation to Linda Ronstadt, Shakira, and Narciso Rodriguez.

The ALMA (American Latino Media Arts) Awards are honoring Latino performers (actors, film and television directors, and musicians) who promote positive portrayals of Latin talent in the entertainment field. In Spanish alma means spirit or soul.

The 2008 ALMA Awards will air on ABC September 12th to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month and will include appearances from the Black Eyed Peas, Jessica Alba, Carlos Mencia, and America Ferrera.

This weekend stars came out in the name of fashion and music. Famous boutique Intermix celebrated the 2008 VH1 Rock Honors. The event took place on the Robertson Boulevard and turned into an exclusive party and benefited the VH1 Save The Music Foundation.

Celebrity guest list included Karina Smirnoff, Selena Gomez, David Henrie, Audrina Patridge, and Kim Kardashian wearing super sexy yellow Miguelina dress.

Lauren Conrad showed up in Elizabeth & James, Audrina Patridge in Filthy Mouth Clothing and Jules Smith bangles.

The Intermix owners Khajak Keledjian and Haro Keledjian hosted the event. And by the way, limited edition of VH1 Rock Honors t-shirt, designed by Scarlett Johansson was presented exclusively.

Miss Venezuela is the right answer. Miss Universe 2008 was crowned today July 13th among 79 other contestants gathered in the seaside city of Nha Trang, Vietnam, vying to succeed previous Miss Universe Riyo Mori of Japan.

Her name is Dayana Mendoza. The girl has a very interesting story behind her. She was once kidnapped in her home country and says the experience taught her to remain poised under pressure. The most beautiful girl in the world declined to discuss her kidnapping which occurred just a year and a half ago but just like all the pageant princesses do she took advantage of the occasion to call for a global peace.

I want to raise my voice and tell the world that violence is not the answer”.

Dayana Mendoza is 22, is a 5-foot, 10-inch (178-centimeter), green-eyed woman who loves learning languages and photography. Her career ambition is to become an Interior Designer.

The final five contestants included four from Latin America: Miss Mexico, Miss Dominican Republic, Miss Colombia and Miss Venezuela. Rounding out the final five was Miss Russia.

Miss Thailand won the prize for best national costume and Miss El Salvador, Rebeca Moreno, was chosen by her peers as Miss Congeniality.

This year’s contestants spanned a wide range of experiences and aspirations.

Miss Albania was a professional basketball player. Miss Argentina says she has paranormal experiences. Miss Antigua & Barbuda is fascinated by snakes. Miss Angola was in a plane crash while trying to escape a conflict during her country’s civil war.

The girl is quite a blogger. Kim likes letting everyone know what’s going on especially the things that paparazzi didn’t get, she puts them out herself. Yes, just like the sex tape with her doing ’stuff’ with Reggie Bush. Here is some latest from Kim Kardashian:

We had an amazing Fourth of July!…

My family along with Reggie’s family spent the day at Reggie’s house. We laid out by the pool, swam and cooked all day! My mom brought the dessert and Kylie baked a cake that looked like an American flag! Rob, Reggie and Reggie’s brother played Rock Band all day! It was so funny to watch them play! Reggie played guitar, his brother played the drums and Rob sang!

Bruce and Reggie’s dad barbecued and at the end of the day EVERYONE got thrown in the pool!!!

Khloe and Reggie started it by throwing my mom in! Then Reggie threw Rob in and broke his cell phone! Then Reggie threw Khloe in! Then Khloe threw me in! She dropped me on the way to the pool but I still couldn’t escape not being thrown in!!! Just another typical holiday with the Kardashians and the Bushes. ;)

Looks like the Keeping Up with Kardshians family is fun and, well, there’s nothing more to say about them.

Another star-studded party was held by Sir Elton John yesterday in his Windsor home. Hardly had celebs said good bye to Nelson Mandela in Hyde Park as they were invited to Elton John’s 10-th Annual White Tie & Tiara Ball raising money for the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

The Ball is an annual event hosted by Elton John and David Furnish and one of the premier fundraising events of the UK. This year the ball marks its 10th anniversary and the 15th anniversary of the Elton John AIDS Foundation in the United Kingdom. This year’s sponsors include Chopard and OK! Magazine. The Ball has already raised more than £26.9 million (over $53m) since the first event in 1998.

The event is famous for its wealth of A list celebrities attracted. This year’s list included former U.S. president Bill Clinton, Sir Michael Caine, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, Elizabeth Hurley with husband Arun Nayar, The O.C. star Mischa Barton, Kelly Osbourne, Rob Steward with his family, model-of-the-moment Agyness Deyn, Chris Tucker, American Idol judge Simon Cowell, Natalie Imbruglia, and many others.

Guests looked gorgeous. Jada Pinkett Smith was wearing a tight black gown with a very long train making her look just amazing against her really stylish hubby.

As for Liz Hurley she chose a stunning aquamarine strapless gown and a diamond tiara to make her look like a real princess (or a queen?).

Mischa Barton was wearing a lemon green dress with a black lacy inset and embroidered headband making her look flirty and girly. I liked the headband, not the dress.

Mischa wasn’t along to pick a headband. Model Elle MacPherson dazzled in a gold evening look, beaded gold headband and vintage embroidered shawl that made her look hippy but really glam.

Eva Herzigova was wearing a very lovely Gracian-style white gown with a yellow-brown chain ornament. Cute.

Naomi Campbell showed up too.

Generally, every year the party has a theme. “The theme this year is ‘beach party’,” says Elton’s longtime partner David Furnish. “So, we’ve got Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys playing. The aim every year is to get people to say it was the best one yet. It’s still a party in your home and Elton and I like to shake everybody’s hand personally. There is no us and them.”

Though it was a beach party, most celebs preferred more classical glam style. I personally liked Natalie Imbruglia’s black dress that stressed her slender body really well.

Elton John and David Furnish invited 620 guests who had to pay $6000 a ticket to raise even more money than last year though last year they raised $12 m at the Las Vegas party.
